How to create a Web hosting service ?
I am looking for an inexpensive web hosting firm with wordpress click and install option. I went through some web hosting review sites like "web hosting top dot com", http://www.top-webhosting-services.com, web hosting geeks etc. but I am unable to decide so far. I am specifically looking at one click Wordpress install option. I had read somewhere about some web hosting firm providing this service but unable to recall now. I presently have a web hosting account but it does not have the "click and install" wordpress installation option. Any guidance to install wordpress manually on a linux web hosting will also be appreciated.

Wanting to give something back, I'm toying with the idea of setting-up a small web-hosting service to provide free hosting for a select few... probably by using sub-domains (e.g. site1.mydomain.com, site2.mydomain.com,...) for each.The obvious choice would be to set-up a web-server and stuff on one of my own computers, but neither my internet-connection nor projected up-time is good enough.I was therefor wondering if there are any server-parks that allows me to rent (cheaply) a Linux/Unix server for such a purpose, and manages keeping it up? I would need Apache, PHP and MySQL for sure, and the ability to add packages of PHP scripts freely. I doesn't matter too much if the server is specifically to be used for web-services, or if it's set-up more for general purposes... though the latter is preferable. I basically want "my own" Linux machine -- to do with as I please -- with a killer connection, and someone to keep it up-and-running.
Server-park for "managing" my own web-hosting service?
I'm a newer-than-noob Linux user switching in from Microsoftland. Back there, I needed IIS on a Windows Server in order to run multiple dev and beta web sites simultaneously, and used SQL Server for the databases.I'm looking at switching what I do to Ubuntu now, and see they offer a desktop and server version. Would I need the server to run web services on multiple dev site projects, or can those be hosted (locally) on the desktop version?Also, what's the standard database app for Linux/Unix hosted web sites? Again, would that be runnable on desktop, or does it need the server?I'm looking for free applications, or as cheap as possible. Thanks, and looking forward to being here.

actually i have a mobile application that is developed on .Net platform. this application sends data to our database(it in mysql) which is present in our remote redhat linux server. we acess it with the help of whiz ftp and putty. data is sent to database with the help of our web service that is present on another windows server. our website developed on php is also hosted on this linux server.everything was working fine.last week we changed our linux server for some reasons. here came a problem after shifting all the files from previous server to new server all the process became slow, i mean we are facing time out exception, its taking a lot of time to acess database and display records on the website, every thing that worked on previous server the same doesn't work here... we cant send mails from php using smtp server,we get "mail sending fail error ".what could be the problem ??????? the only change we made is we upgraded our mysql from 3.5 to 5.0 thats it pls help me

I plan on having lots of videos and photos on my sites, and was wondering what kind of features are the most important for me to be looking for when searching for a web host. Are some servers faster than others? If so, which are the fastest? And is it better to go with a windows or linux server? Are there any other important features that I need to look for? I went to the yahoo hosting service i tried to find the they're email,but i couldn't find it,and they say the can provide email 24/7.But that's not what i'm here for.Yahoo is a verry realiable company so i trust them with the hosting service, so i don't know where should i find out if yahoo hosting supports this type of configuration: Linux/Unix (RedHat, Debian, FreeBSD, Mandrake, etc.) or Windows OS, Apache Web Server, PHP 4.1 and higher (Apache and CGI modules), MySQL 4.1 and higher, GD lib 1.8 and higher, Cron Jobs, ionCube Loader for the license files, open IN and OUT TCP connection on ports 999, 1982 and 1983. So I was going to register a domain name with GoDaddy, which sounds simple enough until I got to the checkout page. This is an example of the checkout page as provided by an information site: http://z.about.com/d/webdesign/1/0/y/U/1/godaddy6.pngThe thing that confused me is where it said "If you are hosting these domains elsewhere, click here to set nameservers."Right now, I do plan to find a different web hosting service (linux-based) that allows you to add both a blog and a forum.The problem is that I haven't purchased any web hosting, so how would I know the nameservers. I'm lost as to what to do. Do I just park the domain at GoDaddy, purchase web hosting, and change the nameservers per the web host's instructions later?Please help if you've gone through this process.

I need to create a very basic website, one feature of which needs to be the ability for each user to be able to download files that are specific to him/her...and the files are very sensitive / confidential. I need to host it locally if possible but if there is a service out there that does it I might be able to swing it. I have Ubuntu Linux and Windows servers available to me. I will also need to build a login system and will probably stick to PHP and MySQL for that.Even the vaguest nudge in the right direction will help with this. I'm a network admin so I do have a technical background but I don't have a ton of web development under my belt.
