I want to register a domain name and get a web site for my business.Does it matter whether I use a U.S.-based registrar or a foreign based one. I do business in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and plan to get the same domain name for all three. So, does it matter from where I get the domain name? Are there legal issues involved?Also, should I use the same company to host my website? And does it matter if I get a foreign-hosted website? Are there legal implications to this? I was told to keep my domain name registrar separate from my web hosting company to prevent website black mail by either of them; it also makes any outages at one place less likely to affect the other.I am thinking of either getting the domain through a U.S. registrar, but hosting the English language site in Canada, or using a Canadian registrar, but hosting the site in the U.S. The Mexican site will host the Spanish language site, or will point to a Spanish language page at one of the two above sites. I feel that the uptime for the American or Canadian sites will be more reliable than the Mexican site (I've lived in rural and urban Mexico, and i know firsthand the state of their electricity and communication infrastructure).BTW, my business involves photography, travel, and music.

Hey guys,A bit of a rookie question but thought this might be a good spot for some advice. I've developed an online product around managing one's website through a content management system. The catch is that I need to host the product so I'm not really selling it but rather renting it to a user (almost like web hosting). I'm thinking a monthly fee. Now I want to make sure I'm doing the right things tax-wise. What do I need to do in the way of collecting taxes when providing a service like the one mentioned above? I have a registered business in Canada, I haven't setup a GST/HST number yet. Also, what do I need to do when offering this service in the U.S. or country other than Canada too?Any advice/instruction would be awesome! Thanks!!J.
Starting an online "services" or "membership-based" business?
I work as a web design artist in my spare time. I have a website that host's my art gallery and payment section. The company that hosts my website, Iweb technologies, (Somewhere in Canada), has been quite shaky in their web hosting. I contacted them on Wednesday night via email, because I have been unable to log into my server's control panel. It seems that I have been locked out of my own dedicated server. I don't know why. My account manager said that they would get back to me, but did not that day. So I waited until Friday morning and sent her a friendly email, inquiring as to the status of my server. Still no reply as of now.I am beginning to hear some bad things about their company, and have hoped it is not true. However, I can not help but wonder, based on what I am experiencing myself. Should I ditch them and get a new host? I don't know what to do, I just know that I am irritated by their service as of now. Any suggestions?
